A Jungle Sighs, A People Dies....

A Jungle Sighs, A People Dies...

The jungle sighs natives feel it’s pain,
those men who cut are back again.
They steal trees, sell them cheap,
our politicians bark not worth a peep.

Money made by heartless souls,
who deliver much by way of goals.
To fill large pockets of greed, lust
destroying an immerging tribal trust.

How do you trust these men of lies,
who can cut and destroy a beautiful tree.
They stand watching as a culture dies,
then laugh as all the other animals flee.

These same men who drill for oil,
raping our earth to salve their greed.
Not content with what we get from soil,
destroying others lives with little heed.

They say it’s progress we know it’s not,
sending rockets to Mars at a horrible cost.
Why not be happy with the earth we’ve got,
please we’ve got to stop before all is lost.

Mars the only planet left as man counts
the minutes left in his tanks. We should
have left the money, brought more air,
what good is money here, there are no
banks.

I agree that the destruction of rain forests in both north and south America needs to be stopped. Now to critique. There are some lines which I think can be improved on.like stanza 3 line 3 . An alternative would be "they stand watching as a culture dies". But minor line changes are nit picking. In my opinion if you want to bring Mars exploration into this you need to expand the length some and that might keep the final stanza from seeming to try to say too much in too little space. These are just one guy's thoughts though and I hardly expect you to make changes based on only my ideas. PS my son and I are about to purchase a few acres and one thing we'll be doing is upgrading the biomass from weeds and briers to, eventually, woods.

Thank you Stan, i've made the first change you suggested and will give some thought to extending the poem. Regards Roscoe...

The formal structure satisfies my soul, although the protests are hard to take (as are they all). The Mars bit was witty.
