Raising Wrecks...

Raising Wrecks…

I hear they’ve found another wreck,
a warship from the deepest sea.
Wonder who will spring this cheque,
sure hope it’s not poor fools like me.

It costs a fortune to get them up,
more to keep them from disintegration.
They’ll soon be out with the begging cup,
saying their saving it for our nation.

Governments won’t look after their poor,
but they’ll throw money at such folly.
I don’t know what angers me more,
seeing people hungry or them on a jolly.

What’s the matter with the world today,
always wanting to bring back the past.
If it’s an antique they’ll happily pay,
while poverty stricken people are outcast.

Poverty’s an ancient, always been around,
but they won’t bring up those old remains.
An arrogant pomposity does normality astound,
while hunger every worthwhile nation stains.

Look they’ll say we brought it from the deep,
our nations generosity must be praised.
I say their silly ruined wreck they can keep,
it’s our peoples expectations that need raised.

If I can have a wish come true
I want the situation reversed
let the idiots feel the truth
not just hear it from our words

let them feel the sting of poverty,
to be denied a just treatment
to be thrifty with every penny
that they can manage to earn

when their rooftops started to leak,
when they have to live in cramped spaces
when they find they don't have enough to eat
then they'll know what it means to suffer

Alid if only your wish could come true, i'm sure the world would be a very different place. Thanks for your comments. Regards Roscoe...

and am delighted to be getting back into the swing of critiquing. The last year has shattered parts of my psyche I didn't know were there.

It's a boy toy thing, of course. Do you remember my "Symptoms of Testosterone" trilogy? I may re-post it. As a child I loved seeing the grand battle ships and their big guns, all washed clean of blood.
You scansion has improved considerably, have you been assiduously practicing, or did this serendipitously flow from the pen? It reads really well.

It just flows, it's in my head and i write it down. Normally i see or hear something or read it, the idea starts and i write down what i'm thinking. Thanks again for your support, Regards Roscoe..

and I really like the title. I have mixed feelings about the content but that only means the poem was worth writing and thinking about.

A grand rant, I was raised as a wreck but got better LOL.
The tax payer had to fork out for my orange juice when I was a kid and they allowed me some malt and cod liver oil to build me up, but we were rationed on most everything else.
I survived and am nearly normal now if this is normality..
Take care out there,
Yours Ian.T

Thank you Ian, i have enjoyed the same orange juice and oil and i guess it never done me any harm. Some kids today could do with a little less, and unfortunately there's still those who need a lot more. This is 2014 and things haven't changed that much, there should be no poverty in a country as rich as we are. Priorities always seem a little blurred when the wealthy decide how to run a country.
