What's.....What!

I've seen shadows erase rainbows
and raindrops drowned the sun,
I've even seen the blues overwhelm the day;

occasionally, what's what comes strange
and sorrow morphs into fun,
then, children crave schoolwork, instead of play!

Sometimes it can be troublesome
wiping up the messy tears,
it's confusing when they continually return!

I've learned to swing at life's curveballs,
and seen laughter sprout from fears,
then, drawn a blank seeing clues I can't discern.

So, when the sights and sounds of life
seem obstreperous, and maxed-out
and it's difficult to feel my inner "chi";

hidden deep within the shadows,
something robs from me, my clout;
and in the darkness I can't ever find my key.

'Tis at that time I'll shift my stance
and attempt to shield my eyes,
and I really try to focus on what's what;

people, places, in fact, anything
appearing comforting, and good;
will turn right around, and calmly bite me on my butt!
