You sit and hold his hand
And give him peace
He misses you when you’ve gone
You are his lifeline, his anchor and release.
You are his whole being
His love, his need
You comfort and console him
He reaches out to you when his memories bleed.
As he disintegrates
Body broken
You pull him from disaster
And rescue him with words tenderly spoken.
You treat him with honour
He smiles at you
You smile and give him a hug
He does need you to live, but you need him too.
Dedicated to my severely disabled father-in-law and husband.

Ah Mand, you touch the bonds that make this life worth
Ah Mand, ah Mand, you touch the bonds that make this life worth living, that of empathy, and love.
And who better than one's husband to fill the role of model for this poem, I felt as though you had caught a living thing, a butterfly perhaps, that had a broken wing, and you tenderly, without destroying the patterns on its wing, nurtured it and gave it such solace and love that it responded with equal love towards you; that's what I felt as I wandered through the vapours of your remembered thoughts here Mand and it was so lovely to do so, thank you.
My love to you from Ann.
Hello my friend
Soo good to see you! I love your words!!! They are like silk, so beautiful to be touched by them.
Over the past two years I have been privelaged to witness my husbands utter devotion to his father - who is severly disabled, they truly do need each other.
I hope I have managed to capture some of the love they have between them!
Thank you for reading and for your wonderful comment Ann - I appreciate it.
Loads of love

I am so proud of my husband for his devotion. His father is such a gentle man in the real sense of the word. True enough on the odd occasion they have their spats! but it's not long before they are smiling again!
Wonderful to hear form you, I hope you're o.k! The sun is shining across the glitter sea this morning and there was a fantastic sunrise.
Thanks for reading and your lovely comments.
Love and kisses

So so true!!
When he's gone - my husband will be devastated! But he has done everything possible to make his life comfortable - so he will be able to look back and be happy with that.
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment.
Loads of love

Hello Amalzamani
Do you know - sometimes I really struggle with poems, chopping/changing etc - this one flowed and was on paper within an hour.
It is plain and simple - but it's the first poem I've really put any proper emotion into - because I felt it.
So aside from spelling mistakes/gramma - I won't change it because it is what it is. The whole truth.
Maybe in years to come my great grandchildren will read it - then they will realise what wonderful ancesters they had!
Thank you soo much for reading and commenting.
Love to you
