Writing About Relationships

It's almost like hosting
a late night talk show.
I invite each guest to sit
with me for a few moments
while we go over highlights
and memories
of time spent together.
We laugh,
we cry,
then sit in silence
knowing it was
phenomenal,
these days on earth,
these glorious days.
We know they are coming -
the goodbyes,
the final conversations.
I know these relationships
are worthy of a poem,
but the only thing my heart
can bear to say is,
"Thanks for being here,"
and then quickly announce
tomorrow night's guest.

I am getting a picture of someone who is like a counselor for the terminally ill. ~ Geezer.

Honestly, I'm not certain what this is about. I can express fairly easy what I believe nature feels, but I seldom, if ever, write about human relationships and simply asked myself "why not?" This is what spilled out. Not certain what it is telling me, reading back, obviously some emotional denial. Poetry is real, especially when looking in the mirror.
Thank you so much for your thoughts,

This was kind of hard for me, not certain why, but at this point that's okay. I agree about the title...yours is a wonderful suggestion. I'm always grateful for your input.
Thank you!

This was an unfamiliar poem for me - I absolutely love your response. I may put some thought into this and use "welcome" in there somewhere. I feel that it would be warmer, more complete.
Thank you so much!

I agree, very detached, which woke me up with a shock. I think of this as the start to expanding my poetry outward, and deeper. I almost did not post because it seemed so cold to me, but at the same time, it was very revealing and I appreciate feedback.
Thank you for your help!

I see it as having to say goodbye
whether romantic relationship or loved one
wanting to distance yourself from the final goodbye thus the talk show host
this opoem sounds like a dream
