WHEN I AM OLD (challenge contest)

I used to think when I am old
that I will be this or be that
But as blood thins with coming cold
I've worn many a different hat.

So now that I have reached that age
i look back and laugh at young ambitions.
Once in a while I even rage
at the chosen false directions.

The trail behind fades with its length,
The one before me isn't near as long.
So I just hope I have the strength
to sing the ending of my song.

And any hoped for passing fame
I am now content won't come my way.
I'll become a minor extinguished flame
snuffed and discarded on the way.....

Dare I hope some distant day
one person might recall my words
which I scribbled down while on my way
and not consider them absurd?
