WALKING WITH TEMPTATION

Easing down the street today
it's warm and toward the end of May
the sun is not too hot or bright
all in all, the day's just right.

I'm disengaged except my feet
which pound an automatic beat
my mind's adrift as are my eyes
a perfect day, I do surmise.

My eyes, perchance, drift over there
and light upon a derriere
encased in skimpy running shorts
( for all I know her face had warts ).

I tore my eyes away from her
before much ogling could occur
but upon leaving, eyes next alight
upon another pretty sight.

A tiny halter, almost busted
by heavy burdens held upthrusted.
I force my gaze to not long linger
lest it arouse "eleventh finger".

Again I turn my head away
determined to be good today
then stare at a shop's window glass
awaiting increased pulse to pass.

"Enough temptations please!" I beg
when glass reflection showed a leg
t'was long, shapely, smooth and tanned
and almost more than I could stand.

Determined to unload my mind
of breasts and legs or taunt behind
I turn to walk the other way
and try to regain my cool today.

Going around a corner, sharp
I must have heard an angel's harp
for there she stood in all her beauty
( she was, in fact, an earthly cutie ).

Although she smiled, I forced a frown
and cast my eyes upon the ground.
I made myself walk right on past
and told my heart "Don't beat so fast!"

Completed walk with eyes down, still
until I reached my own home's hill
at last I raised my glance to see
the very definition of beauty.

She wore a golden wedding band
which I had placed upon her hand
but like most sisters she can't ken
the hold that women have on men.
