The voice of Christmas Past
keeps whispering in my ear
I don't want to go with him
I'm pulling back in fear
“Come on, he says, for a while
I won't hurt you much”
I just want to show you
you need a Christmas touch”
“Bah, Humbug, leave me be
you're a bit of moldy bread
Just a dream I'm having
I shouldn't eat, then go to bed”
His touch is cold, ice in my heart
hand held in frozen fingers
“See, the school you used to go to
there is a memory that lingers”
Third grade Secret Santa
I remember tears so well
Pick-up sticks for a present
I gave a silver bell
The tears I cried were silent
but the sobs were in my voice
The teacher asked me why
and said, “You should rejoice”
I felt foolish and too proud
so I never said, the reason
But now, I see it better
in that long past Christmas season
I hope that little girl
that was gifted with a bell
rang it every Christmas season
Pick-up sticks are #%&*ing swell!
So lesson-learned, Christmas Past
take me home right now!
It's better giving than receiving
go on, take a bow!
As I sat back to watch the snowfall
my stomach rumbled once or twice
and I thought Christmas Past should stumble
Break his ass upon the ice.

I hate thinking about my past
I hate thinking about my past. All scenarios cast me as the jerk, never quite on the mark with anything.
but I suppose that shows some growth and maturity, (that I recognize my past foibles)
