THE SONGS OF LOVE

Bryan Adams sang on
About loving and being loved
Having a hand to hold
And a smile to look upon
On this journey called life

Bryan Adams sang on
As I sat there, tears in my eyes
Listening to the bitter fighting
Erupting from the kitchen

Caught between the song
And the nightmare
I covered my ears to shut them both out
But there was no escape
From either of them

Even now, after thirty years
I still hear the shouting
Whenever I hear the music
That sings about love
The most beautiful thing in the world

I have moved across seven states
And left the state of despair behind
Smiles and kisses
Are the only memories my son will have

The below is a computer generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

Overall, "The Songs of Love" is a poignant and emotional poem that captures the complex and often conflicting experiences of love and domestic turmoil. The juxtaposition of Bryan Adams' romantic lyrics with the bitter fighting in the kitchen creates a powerful sense of tension and duality. The poem effectively conveys the lasting impact that trauma and violence can have on a person, even years later.

One suggested line edit could be to revise the final line of the poem to read "The most beautiful and painful thing in the world." This would further emphasize the paradoxical nature of love and the lasting effects of trauma on the speaker's perception of it.

Overall, "The Songs of Love" is a compelling and thought-provoking poem that explores themes of love, trauma, and resilience. The use of music as a metaphor for these experiences is particularly effective, and the poem is well-crafted and engaging throughout.
