It stands in my living room
Like a small stout child
Not more than two feet tall
It has one thick leg
Made from a tree
Lenke or Mango wood
Its head shaved smooth
Made of goatskin
Fur around its neck
Like a fluffy collar
Rope around its body
In a Guinea weave
The tone is a punch
The slap is like a bell
The bass deep and hollow
An ancient telephone
Spirit message sent
Hands hit the membrane
Vibrations received
Shaking the heart
Rooted to the Earth

Very nice...
I like the little bit of what you might call history about drums, and the description of the tone and quality of the drum.
No criticism here. ~ Geezer.

A Singing Drum
Hello, Sen,
You have given this drum life! And having participated in a just a few drums circles, it makes me so happy! I love your language and the way your poem makes me feel - soulful and connected to the Earth. Your final stanza is just wonderful! I'm wondering if there is a place for the word "djembe" in there somewhere. Such a beautiful word in itself, for such a beautiful instrument. Many thanks for this!

A djembe Indeed
thanks Lavender for your kind feedback, glad to hear you play as well, it is a rewarding drum to play, the sounds and the feel of hand on goatskin, like projecting a voice through a person made of wood and skin, very earthy and emotional.
