Searching For Steven...

I wandered through the forest
running alongside of his bicycle

Sleeping with his thoughts
following his restless voice

The wolves of winter chased him
I ran too

Not near to halfway through
our journey in Neoland

I gasped for breath
and watched him ride out of sight

No matter, he returned again and again
circling to put me in his shadow
asking if I understood yet?

The only thing that I was keen to
was that he coasted without effort
and I struggled to keep going

His testimonials followed my efforts
and gave me hope

Words of wisdom flowed like wine
and fishes from a savior

I wandered in the desert
and honed my words like knives
Sharpening them against the ears of the
unwary

He has left behind a slew of benedictions
that I will treasure

Tracking the wolf through the wilderness
I will warm my heart
with the fires he set in my soul

Steven/Esker is surely missed. He was a great talent and friend. I am sure he would enjoy your tribute to him and his works.

I hope that he would be pleased. He was a big influence on my writing, not only my free verse, but my rhyme too. He was not much interested in writing rhyme himself but told me that he enjoyed certain aspects of it, and mine in particular, because I told stories. So, I've tried to tell stories the way that I think he might. He enjoyed Killer poems and I think that he admired Killer because Killer has a dual personality, that he found intriguing. ~ Geez.

Hi, Geezer,
What a beautiful tribute to someone who highly impressed you and your work. Your final lines are stirring. (And your free verse is beautiful...)
Thank you,

but beautiful just does not go far, or deep enough to sum up Esker's worth or influence on neopoet. he is greatly missed, by many a poet here. you have written about him in a way that I think would have pleased him. ethereal, the wolf of our heart and souls.

I have tried hard to remember the things we talked about, as he said them not as a teacher, but as a confidant and someone who was interested in me and my opinions. Thankfully, I have many comments from him on my comments and our conversations ranged far and wide. I miss him terribly. ~ Geez.

about our very own Esker, [Steven]. I was looking for information about him, trying to find something to use in the anthology, and I was overcome with the feeling of grief. I felt compelled to tell of how he affected my poetry and myself. Glad that you think I did a good job. Love and higgest bugs. ~ Geez.
