Sea of The Hourglass...[An East Main St. story]

The whine of an electric insect
Pushing the heat of the day
With rusted wings
Around the kitchen
Yellow from the cigarette smoke
Cooking...

The signal of messages
The sneak-thieves of black-operators
Listening to plans...
Passing on intelligence
Successful spies
In the war of knowledge

The flap of cards
Like wings a-flutter
Trying to soar in privacy
Amber waves in a glass
Sailed upon with memories
Aided by the parrot
Caged and clipped
Dreaming of when he could fly

Aunt Kit; as she was to me
“Kitty” so long ago
The “flapper” still flapping
Through time...
Great Aunt, she was

Sister Mabel, Grandma
Industrious and cheerful
Watching us taught
The cards don't lie
You just bluff
Pretending you have what you don't

These are indeed minutes from a life more than fifty years ago. Sitting in the kitchen, [where a good slice of my life occurred]. We [our family] lived there many years. First Grandma and Aunt Kit. Then when Aunt Kit died and Grandma no longer needed such a big place; My mother, father, us three children, [two sisters], moved in. I could write many slices of the life that huge, beautiful apartment contained. Higgest bugs, Sis. ~ Gee
