Ring New Year Bells!
Merrily peal
Let all the Earth
Nurture and heal
Waken the green
Buried and paved
Replenish soil
Marred and depraved
While new seeds push
Up through the ground
Respawn the trees
Toppled and downed
May oceans cool
Reefs thrive anew
Glaciers rebound
Sea life ensue
Vistas unfold
Vast open sky
Amid pure blue
Winged creatures fly
Quiet the storms
Soften their sound
Dull angry dins
Goodwill abound
Merry, merry, merry, merry New Year!
Merry, merry, merry, merry New Year!
May humankind
Value its worth
Live peaceful lives
One with the Earth
Then verily
Bells lowly plea
Speak and opine
"For Auld Lang Syne"

Loose adaptation of "Carol Of The Bells"

This is a lovely poem, it has
This is a lovely poem, it has a natural feel of childhood for me because of the lyrical references/reminders to the songs and hymns of my youth.
It also speaks of nature being renewed with the new year, a natural assumption shared by the majority on earth.
But we are alos sharing a new time for the earth and we can only presume things will not get better fast and we must be aware.
Good poem, I liked the rhyming structure and the way it was linked, plus the issues you dealt with. Take care, Ruby :)
Hello, Ruby,
I've written less hopeful poetry regarding Mother Earth before and since this one, but this was meant to not assume in any way, but to reflectively offer hope, goodwill, and appreciation. I am vegan, a minimalist, tree-hugger, actively aware of my lifestyle and carbon footprint, pro-active in constantly trying to learn what we all can do individually and collectively. Eventually, I became so absorbed it was easy to no longer experience the flowering orchid, the Great Blue Heron, or human's random acts of kindness. The earth seemed dark and cold, and human beings colder. I remind myself that potentially, Mother Earth will go on fighting and will win. It just won't be with us on board. She'll eventually kick us off. Not until we respect each other as one with the earth will we see any chance of living in a healthy environment - physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally. While never ignoring the dire state of the environment right now, I'm all for expanding on what we have left - awareness and concern of the many, the realization of what we need to do and the drive to do it. I just can't let myself go back to that dark place of doom and complete loss. Preservation comes from hope and appreciation.
Thank you so much for reading!
