Lift it up and feel its heft
the weight of time and perspiration
all the effort that was left
on pages soaked in inspiration
Run fingers over textured cover
feel the binding on your skin
what new worlds will you discover
on the pages held within
Now open it to that first page
if it's new smell that fresh ink
and even if it has some age
the dust and yellowing won't stink
Let each page slip through your fingers
mark or dog ear favorite parts
where imagination stops and lingers
as the story stops and starts
And then when you read "the end"
place it on a crowded shelf
this pulp which has become a friend
perhaps a part of your true self

Hi Timbo
In a time when all is going electronic,I thought to describe the advantages of books that can actually be held. Thanks for the visit...........stan
Dear Stan,
I guess I'm old fashioned, I like books that you can touch and smell... the kind made from paper and ink! I love my books, only keeping the favorites, which I read over and over. My husband reads to me for a period of an hour and a half, before we go to sleep each night. We have a kindle, but I don't have the same feelings for it as I do about my books.
My favorite lines are:
Run fingers over textured cover
feel the binding on your skin
what new worlds will you discover
on the pages held within
I like your title. Your rhyming is good and feels effortless. Your language usage is easily understood.
always, Cat
Hi Cat
Even though I have a book published on Kindle I will still consider myself unpublished until I can send an actual hard copy of a book of my stuff to somebody....................stan
