Standing still only made the embers burn you more easily,
And yet they were so beautiful,
Because they didn’t hurt you,
You constantly change your skin.
Standing in the dark made you more mysterious,
No one would have approved,
But many would have accepted you,
No one ignores you.
Rubbing your skin with paint made you all the more unique,
You had made us all fall in love,
While others sought your end,
You are color.
Hiding in the lights made you harder to find,
You drove us all crazy,
You kept us from dreaming every night,
You were never far away,
But you aren’t easy to find.
You were never approved of,
Yet you are accepted.

Hello Search,
Your title attracted me to this piece. Can you tell me what it means: what does N.A.Y. A. stand for? Your language usage and imagery is colorful and easy on the eyes. I really liked these lines:
Hiding in the lights made you harder to find,
You drove us all crazy,
You kept us from dreaming every night,
You were never far away,
But you aren’t easy to find.
These lines confused me
You were never approved of,
Yet you are accepted.
for isn't acceptance a form of approval?
always, Cat
Clarification
Hey Cat, thanks for reading my poem. Let me explain some things. The poem is supposed to contrast acceptance and approval. Approval as in government, proper people, mainstream society, stuck up people, sheltering moms, etc. Acceptance as in youth, diversity, people who welcome the idea of unique, underground, etc. I hope that they clarify some things. If you are still confused please tell me. What N.A.Y.A stands for is actually in the poem, it was meant to be a little challenge for the reader if they could figure it out. But If you can't figure it out and you really want to know, then I will be happy to tell you.
regards,
