Phenylethylamine (is just another drug of addiction) (MARCH CONTEST)

Love is not a pretty ride
A fairground fantasy
Love is never careless flowers
Or just saying those words to me

Love is an effort – Love is a choice
Love is a kindness in hand
Love is an offer - a sweet tone of voice
More effort to understand
Love is a truism – a place to rejoice
Love disappears on ‘demand’

Phenylethylamine
The heady ride of ‘spark”
But this hormone is only a catalyst
Love is comfort, no matter how stark

Love is a constant remembering
A prompt to possible good
Seeing beyond current dramas
Not how it’s been – How it COULD!

Love is an ongoing action
If you cease, it will die in your hands
My love seeks your love consistently
Love’s softer place to land.

About This Poem

Last Few Words: These are lyrics really, with a chorus (2nd stanza) that can be repeated between versus... it's what I think is part of the TRUTH of love, not the hormones we feel when we think we are "Falling in love" - Phenylethylamine makes you feel high & lose appetite & be all giddy & heart skips & tummy backflips at the thought of a new love.

Review Request Intensity: I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back

Editing Stage: Editing - rough draft

addicted! I have had the luck to be with the same wife/partner/lover for the last thirty something years and I still experience the high, every time I kiss and/or hug her! Yes, love is like a garden, if you don't tend it and nurture it, pulling weeds, it will die out. Nice work and as it seems to be a song, I don't have any suggestions as to rhythm or pattern. ~ Gee.

I always remember your beautiful attentive commitment to your love, it's something that I truly admire in you & part of why I feel such fondness for you. Someone put something up on FB today that partners this so well - in a nutshell, it describes how the Latin word for love stems from the word courage. To live in the world from the heart is to be courageous... you are a lucky man & she is a lucky woman. Bravo to both of you, I love it xxx

another lucky couple. So great, I love my husband, but he is FAR from romantic or nostalgic... I can't complain, I do prefer a good brain, & he is scientist. Don't know that I can say we still have that crazy PEA hit every day though. I would have thought that rare, but maybe poets are more courageous of heart
