MY SUGAR DADDY

I was on my way to school
My father’s friend drove by
Stopped his car, opened the door
And gave me a lift to the school gate
He smiled at me, I beamed back
Encouragingly, gave me a bundle
Money for my pocket and needs

This man is not that handsome to me
His big belly, baggy trousers
And a big bulge on the neck
Makes him resemble Orangutan
From some jungle in a far away land
And married to my mammy’s friend
Ask me, what makes me want it with him

He spends his money on stupid things
As fast as he made them on deals
He is a magic hippo, he shits money
Like goat’s dung, smears it over me
Not as a bet, I had fallen ever since
He stopped by for tea and biscuits
And asked me to go to Abuja with him

One day he took me out to a club
We ended up tired in a guest house
Though his wife was not in town
I dreamt, falling into a dark hole
Hanging by hair braid he made me do
I woke up to see a woman pulling me up
Dragging me all over the ground

With thunder and rage that scared me so
The struggle to free, stripped me naked
I ran out of the house to the field outside
To see curious bystanders staring at me
My sugar daddy did nothing to save me
He was too ashamed to leave the room
His wife set fire on my clothes and pants
