In My Element

Hydrogen, Lithium, Sodium, Magnesium
And the most treasured: gold, the best element
I am in my element, with no resentments
The golden years, like autumn leaves
And the autumn tree’s they're from
Earth, wind, water and fire
The elements are comprised of elements
Earth is comprised of sediment
Water goes round in a cycle
Wind goes around, Earth that spins around
Fire is emotion: a passion which abounds
I breeze through life, when I look at the water
With a fire, in my soul
In these emotions I revel, and will do till I'm old
They keep me alive; they ensure I survive
Fire may be hot, and the wind may be strong
But my passion still burns, when the water is cold

I love how you incorporated every aspect of the elements within your writing. The flow, rhythm and use of language was great. Well done.

Hello Michael
as I was reading, I wondered if you are a teacher of science or a poet and I love it how you weaved the elements to show how rich we are as we live in this planet. I really like your take of the contest title and applaud your effort.
Best wishes

I studied physics (not chemistry) but didn't complete it at uni. went straight to rehab! Should have done English, prefer it. We are all poets here! So much more fun. Cos you can kinda mix all the deep subjects into one with words. best of both (all) worlds. Did you go to uni?
