Of The Movie, Signs

"Are you in my dream, too?"

Circles -
ultimate engineering, guidance, maps
understood only by those who
have never been there, those who are not lost.

"Please stop calling me Father."

Dilemmas -
lack of faith,
direction,
logic,
cognizance from those around you.

"Felt wrong not to swing."

Instinct -
the need to question,
the need to act,
the need to define,
the need to fulfill a sixth sense.

"I don't think they like water."

Reality -
accepts possibilities,
embraces courage,
invites the unknown,
welcomes the known.

"They're on the roof. They're in the house."

Survival -
challenges despair,
refuses to surrender,
uses reason and rationale,
stands tall and confident.

"Swing away, Merrill. Merrill, swing away."

Resolve -
sees,
acts,
lets go...
believes.

"Did someone save me?"

About This Poem

Last Few Words: During this season of creepy movies - aliens, and monsters, and killers who use power saws from the shed, I find myself watching "Signs" which I actually don't consider frightening as much as I do inspiring. My favorite movie. It has always been poem-worthy to me, especially as I view the four main characters: Graham, Merrill, Morgan, and Bo. ***

Style/Type: Free verse

Review Request Intensity: I appreciate moderate constructive criticism

Editing Stage: Editing - rough draft
