Mountain Cattle

Let me explain the title -

Mountain cattle = Highland cows
Scottish vernacular; cow = coo
Coos on mountain side = high coos

Fresh snowdrops shiver.
North wind rages at new growth;
Not yet time for spring.

Its bloody cool all right, up in the highlands in winter!
Glad you enjoyed. Where do I submit these ravings?

My mind is wandering this morning so I did not put the title and the vernacular together at first.

Then I read the explanation aloud and chuckled.

As far as the poem, well done.

The first line is striking and sets a good tone and the use of "rages" in the second line is spot on. The only suggestion I have for the poem at this time is the consideration of a semi-colon at the end of line 2 rather than a period to create a pause rather than a stop.

As far as the title, I like Mountain Cattle but you might want to try out your "High Coos" to see how it plays.

Just some more of my convoluted attempts to be amusing, Jonathan, glad it gave you a laugh.
I agreee with your punctuation suggestion. Good to see you again, still have plans for Irish tour?

I do, but they have been delayed a year so I am looking at 2012.

Unless, of course, my books sell millions of copies and Top Gear or Graham Norton flies me over to be on a show.

That's more of a dream than an expectation, especially a lap around the track in a reasonably priced car.

"coo" is "a dog" in scots gaelic! (cu)...

thus

"Stoned dog"

But I feel you, lol.

The old men used to say

"Hi coos ower yon brae"

LOL

very funny, Tam!

I do like your "mountain cattle". You capture the end of scottish winter very well.

My grannie used to recite a children's ditty which went :

Looky ! looky ! Dere De Go !
Forty buses in a row !
'Em no buses - 'em are trucks !
See whits in 'em !
Coos an' ducks !

Oh, for those long - lost days steeped in the great culture. LOL

Glad you enjoyed, Jim
