A Mother’s Gift

A mother’s pride pearl jewelry
shine and glow of embellishing
display to see
on the wearing neck
to bring in a radiant look
from a hand custom made
passing on from generation
with a priceless and valuable
possession
As a sovereign gift
for a special occasion
on a wedding day
As a symbol sign of love
Far beyond my description
That is filled with gracious kindness
With the share of bonding
Of a witnessing motherhood
As a reminder
For one to carry on the legacy
From the family tradition
To leave with a cherish
Of a lasting memory

Always great to get such a valuable gift and to be able to use the right words to express your gratitude makes it extremely special.

thinking that one might consider the giving of a family heirloom in celebration of a wedding or other major event, a way to show the pride one feels in a daughter or son, and a way to ensure that the family bonds and feels solid. The shortness of some lines leaves it to the reader to make their own determination as to what this poem means. Giving or receiving?

Hello, Hon
There have been several pieces of jewelry passed down through the generations of my family, usually on a significant date. It seems weddings were the moments to pass along pearls, usually from mother to daughter while putting on the wedding dress. Lots of gifts are handed down from our mothers through traditions, and this poem helps me remember them. Thanks for the sweet memories.

This metaphor about pearls. So if life is my oyster and some uncomfortable contamination intrudes like a grain of sand, we are supposed to use that lesson to create something beautiful. Thing is, it takes time. I’m just starting to makes pearls from childhood sand grains, and so it’s also a metaphor for emotional healing. Like you cherish that Pearl because you remember all the time it was an uncomfortable speck of sand constantly irritating you.
