At least
that's what we called it.
Those long hours after
an eight-balled binge.
No coc, no money
and nothing to shut down the itch,
the tossing within,
scratching to ride just one more train,
churning to the chugging need.
Underneath eye lids the action is enhanced,
brain racing with the sound of board-parks,
over the tops,
making the loops,
minutes, hours,
days.

Hi Molly
Thank you for reading and commenting!!!
Although music is indeed a huge part of
my life, the poem wasn't about music ... but
if you heard Jazz, then I love it !!!
So good...
to see something from you. Raw and unkempt, but I like it! ~ Gee.

Hi Gee,
Appreciate you reading and commenting,
raw and unkempt, that's me lol.
I think I got it
I am familiar with drugs... .

Hi,
Appreciate your read and it is a good thing
that people don't get this poem ... an eight
ball is one eighth of an ounce of cocaine.
A nice round figure for those that may indulge.
Kinda figured
Do you know that Dave van ronk? Best version of cocaine blues, circa 1968. On YouTube
Anyway liked your poem. But then was then and now is now.
No,
I had not heard of him but thank you,
I spent a while this morning listening,
and of course, every time I get on the
youtube, I end up there for hours.
The drug thing for me was years ago,
lucky to have survived the constant blast
to my heart.
yes
me too. Youtube is everything ever recorded anywhere in the world. But you feel so great with that freedom, I go from Bach to Van Ronk to all over the place too often...but all that great music feels so good!
One of those periods for me was Disco, I as right there for a few years in NYC. Please take a look at a poem I have on my page Ode to Sally Lippman, Disco Sally. you might enjoy.

it's a pleasure Sir
to read you

Hi Loved,
Thank you for reading and commenting.
It's good you don't know the drug world,
it isn't always something one can get over.
Hey there,
so fun seeing your poetry again,
thanks for reading and commenting
on my melancholy days.
This is kind of a stuff which
This is kind of a stuff which as is said separates men from the boys...
Regards...
Hi raj,
Thank you for your inspiring words,
you have class.
Nice trip...
Nice trip down memory lane. I liked your use of allusion to Elton John and The Beatles songs. The first more obvious than the second. "One more Train" takes me to the "Picture yourself on a train in a station" line in Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
Assuming all of that is true and even if it isn't, your poem captures those crazy nostalgic days well.
Enjoyable free verse themoonman.
Hi
Thank you for reading and leaving your
read of my work ... loved it.
The write was true, a short period but
sure enough true.
Hi Mark,
Appreciate that man !!!
the days when your back teeth were floating
you've captured with style, but no gloating, lol.
Best....val x
Thanks,
that grind was addictive on it's own
Like the flow of this
"churning to the chugging need". nice!
Hi,
Thank you, much appreciate you reading
and taking the time to comment.
I like this poem.
Scary and enticing truth about drugs and how they possess us and beglutton our lives.
It is nicely done!
Hi,
Yes they do, I had my run in like others,
could have gone much worse ... lucky
in some respects.
Thank you for commenting.
Apparently these days drug
Apparently these days drug problem even more acute. Millennials die from OD more often than baby boomers. I am glad for you that you keep under control the demon. Respectfully, Irene.
No,
I wouldn't know these days. I think that
is part of the problem with the poem, I'm
out of touch, it is very different now.
I don't see any problems with
I don't see any problems with the poem, my friend.
