Married Life

Later that night, interrupting the quiet of our thoughts,
I asked her "What will you do if you outlive me?",
expecting her to say something endearing
like she would miss me terribly…

She replied, with all the love she has found
and would want to hold onto after I’m gone
"I'll keep your ashes under my bed."

But the real reason I love her
was her reply to my next query
"Aww, that's sweet”, I said. “But don't you think
that would bewilder a new boyfriend?"

“Perhaps I'll just keep a spoonful then."

About This Poem

Last Few Words: If we couldn't laugh at ourselves we would probably be divorced. Thankful for the humor we share.

There is nothing better than a good sense of humor in a loved one! This was a great read first thing today. I was a little late in getting going today and kind of dragging through my chore of doing my laundry, when I decided to sit and visit the site. Surprise, surprise! I got a good chuckle and a little boost. ~ Geezer.

I love that the most impromptu moments can be captured into magical poetry! This is enchanting and delightful. What a great relationship you seem have! Wonderful title, and I especially love the way the poem starts out with a reference to an earlier time. I think that is genius... and very intriguing!
Thank you!
