(To my father, for being just who he is)
My heart swells up and bounces around in my chest like a balloon
When I stand at my window and from a distance, notice you
“He is mine…he is mine” is all I can think of
When I see you like that…close enough
You keep me going strong, my grand Oak tree
You keep watch over me, my strongest Martial Eagle
What would I have been up to…where I would I have been
If you were not mine…so humble and regal
I wake up in the morning and pray that you’ll stay
With me forever and ever though I know that one day
You’ll surely leave me…I dread it, I do!
All I can say is; oh what will I do without you?!
My love has long since escalated to reverence
Your faith I so admire…gives meaning to my existence
If I was given another chance to choose
I’ll throw my hands around you and never let you loose
It will be you all over again if I had the chance
But it’s a shame that I can only have you once
So do not go now, I’m pleading…stay alive
Without you, I sure will not survive
It is because of you, I know
That my life seems to smoothly flow
When hurdles that I find too high come my way
You’re there to go down on your knees and pray
You have taught me well, it’s true, you have
Yet there’s still more I wish to learn from your love
Your love for your Maker, your love for His words
How you live for Him alone and for all His works
You will step into that greatest light some day
In that, I know I have no say
So teach me all there is before you go
Teach me everything, father, take it slow
And if I have not said it before I’ll say it now
I love you dearly; let me tell you just how
Much I do…
I love you so much I continually fear
I’d lose you if I do not stay clear
Off the darkness you hate to see
So I’d strive for the light you live for daily
Because I love you Daddy
I love you…deeply!!!

A beautiful tribute to your Father, I would love this from my own children, but think that they will only say these things later and I shall have to read them from afar, Yours Ian
Ian!
This goes out to all the amazing fathers out there!
