LIFE

When you're at your
Lowest of lows.
We all know how
The story goes.

Down on your luck,
Can't catch a break.
No matter what,
Can't get a fair shake.

Depression eats away,
At the sane mind.
Physical limitations,
On the decline.

The mind full of dark
Thoughts and things.
Can't even fly with
These broken wings.

I sit and ponder, what
Will become of me.
Held captive by
The powers that be.

Sixty years old and
All alone.
I rent a room,
Don't have a home.

Never expected to be
Old and solo.
Even the Lone Ranger
Had Tonto.

Yet, here I am solo
And lonely.
All alone a one
Trick pony.

I did not see old
Age coming.
Life just keeps,
Things humming.

Geezer

things can get a little depressing at times, but keeping a cheery outlook is possible. I remember being pretty much in the same boat and thinking that this is really shitty! But a cashier at one of the local stores gave me a little piece of advice, that turned everything around! She told me to look for other people that seemed a bit depressed; people that I saw frequently, people that didn't look as cheerful as usual. Tell them that they looked nice today or ask them if they want to hear a joke to cheer them up? I had a favorite one that worked almost every time. After you catch their attention, walk like a gunfighter in the classic pose, stop and look them square in the eye and ask them in your best cowboy voice, if they want to see a fast draw? If they say yes, [or even if they don't], put your hands like you are going to draw on them, pause and then say; [Ya want ta see it again?] Brought a smile to many a sad face! Your poem is good, you are alright, and things will get better. ~ Geezer.
