It Doesn't Get Better Than This

I remember the days
we’d stay on the phone all night

We’d fall asleep on the call,
just so we could wake up together the next day.

I used to think
“It can’t get better than this”

---

I lie here,
held in your arms
the safest place I could ever be

The colder the night
The closer you hold me

I think to myself:
It really can’t get better than this

---

9 months of waiting
We held our son for the first time

Really, It can’t get better than this…

---

Sitting on the porch
drinking coffee
as we watch our boy play...

It doesn’t get better than this.

---

Maybe when we’re old
and grey,
I’ll think it for the last time...

but for now,
It doesn’t get better than this…

Hello, Kristen,
This is a wonderful poem conveying the gratitude of living in the present and being mindful of all good things. Having lived through several of these stages of life, I would agree - it doesn't get better than this.
Thank you!
