When I am frightened all shall end
before my epic poem is through,
ere I have chance to shape and mend
the tales I want to tell to you;
When I can view the storyline
unwritten in my teeming brain
and know that I shall soon resign
from life and all has been in vain;
And when I fear, you poets of such peerless grace
shall never know my chronicle,
then all my wonder I erase
and ponder the ironical.
