If I were a poet
and could write in a fine hand
I'd pen my love a poem
only she would understand
I'd compose it down at the shore
where the waves always come back to me,
like my reflections of her

Hi, Michael,
A tender and lovely poem. I think what I really like the most is the title. The poet, you, and the poem are so humble, and your final line is full of gratitude. Reflective.

I am enamored...
of your title too! I often think of if, as though it were part of the old adage; "I should have, I could have, I would have." I usually
go one step further and say: "But this is what I did." Nice, short and spare piece that sums it up. ~ Geez.
