Dog Stars

I hate the sun
without you here
I wish the moon
could still see you too

I can forgive the stars,
if they’d let me see you there
Maybe tomorrow though
they may need some time

Canis Major perhaps;
you always loved animals
That’s where I’ll look for you
in the midnight sky

Better to do it then
so you won’t see my tears

Dear Michael, what a lot of feeling there is in your poem. So sorry about your mother dying so recently. Writing poetry does keep grief at bay, somewhat. I used to write about my lost loved ones to keep going on in life.
I see that some corrections have already been pointed out. I also like your Canis Major reference. Brings something special to your piece.
I find your poem is a consolation to me as well. Thanks for that, Gracy

that your mother was not just an animal lover, but in particular a dog-lover? I love the reference to the Dog-Star too! A piece that gives voice to the anguish that losing a loved one brings. A tight, well-written poem of pain. ~ Geezer.

I love this poem so much, it is quite painful but in the best way. I am obsessed with the title aswell, this poem is really something!

My heart and sympathies go out to you, and I am sorry to hear about your mother's passing. This is such a beautiful, heartfelt poem that left me reeling from memories of my own grief dredged up once more. Beautiful poem, as always. <3
