Some people say, ‘Life is war’
It could as well be the travails
Through thick forest of errors
Degenerated men created our wars
And damned the consequences
The restless child who says
The mother should not sleep
And cries all night for breast milk
The child too will not see sleep
Damn it, you don’t know my pains
For others, life is like a rat race
They steal from public coffers
Stash the loot in foreign banks
Crazy baldheads and fat belly
Damn all forms of corruption
Trapped in a yearning desire
To free men from the sticky web
Which entangles and strangulates
The child from becoming a man
Damn all off-putting oppositions
Of the wars we have fought
And the battles we have won
Who will say they lost nothing
War can not finish the multitude
Except those that are damned
Fear forms of religious extremism
Or militants who carry arms to attack
They terrorize and wreak havoc
And avoid the negotiating tables
What else can I say? Damn them all

Wonderful last stanza. As I teach this morning and my hangover becomes ever heavier under the rain of children's screams, I can't help but appreciate all of the "Damn all"s

Thank you. The terrorists are becoming bolder in my country, from petty stealing to arm robbery to kidnapping and now bombing government institutions. The latest was the suicide bombing of UN office in the Federal capital territory, Abuja.
I appreciate your time on this piece, best wishes.
