A Concrete Jungle
Tantalising wolves when they’re up against the wall
Is tantamount to suicide so don’t be such a fool
Desperate people go beyond arm’s length
You’ll realise, when you victimize, a wolf, you’ll feel it’s strength
Going off the beaten path, into the unknown
Testing people’s patience, glass houses and rocks thrown
You have the patience of a prince inline to be enthroned
The wolf has even less, so leave the wolf alone
Your restlessness and boredom, took you down this track
A wolf you chance upon, with the risk of an attack
Your heart rate travels upwards, no way of turning back
Convince yourself your capable, if you don’t, then face the flak
You’re now a sheep in a wolf’s clothing, the flipside of the sly
If the beast can see what’s underneath, then probably, you’ll die
A subconscious lucky thought, infiltrates your mind
You remember just how wolves and fire really don’t combine
You light a match, it ignites like thatch, the wolf then runs away
The fire’s your desire, to be a hunter, not the pray
Don’t talk to people candidly, don’t look at them that way
The jungle’s full of predators, worse at night than in the day
The city is a messy sprawl, a dangerous concrete jungle
Where people act like animals, and infections may be fungal
Buildings that shoot upwards like an ancient Redwood tree
Fire ants, or people, as far as the eye can see
Arachnids that move slowly, but possess a racing mind
Will trick you into thinking you’re ahead, when you’re behind
Going round in circles, where the front is not defined
A web of lies that catch the flies, they’ll watch you slowly die
You wonder why the city girls, wear heels everywhere
With snakes in the grass, they walk tall and walk fast, go barefoot if you dare
They slither, they are fake, crave money day and night
With a constriction of addiction, always money on their mind
When it rains it pours in this jungle of sorts
If you’re sinning you are winning at the expense of the poor
Where the king of the jungle sits proudly, then roars
Then visits the Queen, who he pretends to adore
It’s hard in this jungle that’s made of concrete
To be tougher than the city is an admirable feat
Breeze through, don’t fall, don’t pause at all
Be prepared, or ensnared by a creature that mauls

Hell dude
I hate cities. You’re making me feel icky. That means it’s a really good poem.

Walk quickly through the
Walk quickly through the centre and then even faster through the outskirts to escape it all together!

Hello, Michael,
Excellent poem! Rhyme is nice and tight and logical, and the rhythm flows well. Great title, rounds out the theme and feel of the poem. Leaves me wondering about the future...
Thank you,

well to not worry about the
well to not worry about the future is to leave the past behind. yeah cities can be both great and dangerous. but sometimes i find being in a dangerous place is better than being in a countrified place, like where i'm from, lonely. lose-lose. which is dismal! but each to their own. where are you from? and is it rural or a city?
Hello, Michael,
I am from the suburbs - large city in one direction, with farms and fields in the opposite direction. The "concrete" life has expanded further outward, as in most places, along with some issues that seem to follow...crime, pollution, less green space. I know many people who really love the urban lifestyle, and there's much that I enjoy myself, but only on the occasional visit.

yeah definitely agree with
yeah definitely agree with that. Crime etc spreading. Seems that as the population increases, things will only get worse. Also seems inevitable that the whole country will be one big urban sprawl. I mean, how can it not!
Pretty much the same. I live
Pretty much the same. I live about 45 mins from London, but go the other way and its just countryside. Somewhere in between is this place. Balance is key so not a bad place. But was born further away from london so more boring there. Which country are you from?
