A cell of flesh and skin

Here I live
In this cell
Made of flesh and skin
Yet, once I did fly
To the heavens so high
Singing songs of love
That rang out
Clear as church bells.
Fate or karma
Came stepping in
Arresting me in flight
Only watching me
As I fell
When I crashed
No one came to help
Broken winged
I laid dead
In this lonely hell
Is dead, dead
When you can still hear a hum
Even in the silence
Of my restraints
Chains made of veins
Tightly woven
Restricting flow only bringing pain

Sitting trapped
In this deserted dell
Where not even an insect
Dares to dwell
Out there
Not so far away
Someone holds the key
To my escape
The hum that’s heard
Is the life pulsating
Slowly reviving
That which was thought dead
Once again I will fly
From this cell
Of flesh and skin
And free again my heart will be
The pain will finally quell
For it is love that sets my heart free!

This is the second poem I have read today in this vein, referencing an illness....yet each of these two poems stands out as a distinct individual.

Your poem is quite beautiful in its expression of the frustration of being trapped in a body that is less than perfect: yet i also read a strong sense of hope running thru the end, that says a lot for the mental grit of the writer.

Thank you for sharing this one

thanks for your comment it's appreciated,
but I guess that to understand a write sometimes you have to know a little of the writer
thanks for stopping by to read.
that'sthe thing of poetry, that we view a write in our own light, and there nothing wrong with that my friend.

Well I'm pleased it was not the darkness I had envisaged when I read your poem.

That said, that's the nice thing about poetry / music .... indeed all art forms: each listener / viewer has his own interpretation of the piece and that makes it special to him / her.

No two people view the piece the same way, and that's the charm of it!

A well written piece, irrespective of my (mis?) interpretation!

Hi Psyve, I could be wrong, Eddie, but for me this poem is about the soul/spirit trapped inside of the body.

Love comes to open the prison cell (;- ) ) time and time again, thankfully, gracefully. Opera is my favourite music, and this poem reminds me of all the great arias, where the human voice in its majesty, cries to be released from the bonds of being separated from its vision....love.

Anna

thank you so much, but you give me to much credit, for it is truth that I write, and you see it as I do. and that's the wonderful part of it to me.
thank you so very much for your generous comment!

A vivid description. alone in a cell, black and cramped. But love unlocks the cell and sets you free.

clever poem - I like these verses in particular - totally incapacitated.

Even in the silence
Of my restraints
Chains made of veins
Tightly woven
Restricting flow only bringing pain

I enjoyed following your thoughts

This poem reminds me of the journey I have been on the past 6 years, from the pain of divorce to the reawakening of my own hope that it was possible to "once again fly".
Thanks for sharing this wonderful write.
Peace to you this Holiday...

I'm so happy you could relate to this write, It was a terrible feeling of emptiness until love arrived and made my heart fly. there are people who say you can only truly fall in love once, but that's a lie. if you open your heart and push out the fear of hurt. your wings will come to make you once again soar to the sky
thanks for visiting and enjoy your Holiday also!

Eddie,

great poem. It felt very much like the fallen angel scenario (although somewhat like a fallen angel inside your soul)...but you gave it some hope at the beginning!! You know me, I don't like happy endings. That's two of yours I've read where you have given light at the end of the bleak tunnel...you must be in the Xmas mood.

Good images carefully brush-stroked in.

I really liked it and this was awesome:

Broken winged
I laid dead
In this lonely hell

The inner Hell is very lonely...you gave that a great image to me with them laying there, almost nursing your wounds (broken wing). Self-pity is wrapped in those few words...brilliant!

I look forward to your next dark piece with no happy ending!!

Good stuff,

HS
