The Bearded

the bearded
are proud
of their ability
to grow
something
keep a garden
on their face
keep their IDs
in their wallets
be prickly
but still get kisses
(or get prickly
when she
withholds kisses)
the bearded
see each other
pass by
and nod
knowingly
knowing what
it takes to grow
and garden
woo
and experience woe
though they’re
reaping
what they didn’t
exactly sow
short or long
messy or neat
bushy or five o’clock
shadow
beards are honestly
(and honestly not)
just for show

Hi Greg,

A fun, light read - thank you for that - and gave me a much needed smile so early in the morning after a pretty scary night.

Loved the bit about "getting prickly when she with hold kisses".....I remember doing that when my dad had a serious case of the garden growing on his face......:-) fond memories are evoked indeed from this piece for which I once again thank you.

Interesting subject matter to choose to write about just going to show, we poets find beauty and merit in ALL we see and experience - even men's garden hedge grins!

Thank you for the smiles.

Yours in Script

Feebie :-)
