AMERICAN DREAM

I just saw the monthly housing report and thought to dig this out of the old site.................

I hear you banging on my door
a sheriff's deputy
and I know what you're here for
you've come to evict me

Easy to tell you don't like this
on days like this your job you hate
in duty you can't be remiss
I'm coming! Can't you wait !

I lost my job two years ago
when all the banks went bust
I had a little savings though
now gone, dreams turned to dust

The bank that holds my mortgage, see
I helped bail out back then
say they've tried to work with me
their patience is at end

Been in this house for fifteen years
and always paid my bills
now comes the sum of all my fears
by way of pencil pushers' wills

The bank, of course, will come out fine
I've loads of equity
none of it will wind up mine
bank gets it all you see

Well, my home is empty now
possessions in the yard
three days to move them, don't know how
asking friends' help is really hard

Wife's tear stained eyes now look to me
tonight we'll sleep in the car
how could this have come to be
in such short time to fall so far

There is the one thing I have left
(unknown to her, life policy )
in two days she'll be bereft
there's no other option I can see

I had hoped this would have lost its relevance by now

What led me to post this was hearing a report that stated that even though we are in economic "recovery", foreclosures are expected to increase this year. I guess the recovery is only for the rich..............stan

So sad Stan! people work hard to build a little nest, lose their job and within a very short time it all goes down the drain - banks usually profit though!! You have captured the feeling well and sad to say thousands of people have been and will be in this situation. An excellent flow and rhyming style.

Well done Stan, I always enjoy reading your poems.
