“Courage is knowing what not to fear”-Plato

There are two main categories that fear falls under:
We are either scared of pain, death or both.
You are not scared of spiders but a poisonous bite.
Not heights, just the fall.
And I’m not scared of falling in love,
I’m scared of being hurt.
I’m scared that my heart doesn’t know enough loss,
To understand absence.
I’m scared that he has stretched my lungs too far with laughter,
To accommodate chocking sobs.

Im terrified of loss.
Getting attached to the right person
means that any subsequent person;
Would feel like a shadow of a caressed cheek.
Like a heart murmur in that it can never match,
the beating tempo of my heart in the way he does and yet,

And yet and yet my heart beats faster when he’s near.
His hold over my body is terrifying.
If he can control my heart and my smile,
then what of myself is mine?
And how can you say love isn’t scary,
When you give yourself to another?
trusting them wholly to look after you,
After your heart, your smile.

Is it bad that he knows how to use these much better than I did?
He pulls at the corners of my mouth with innocent jokes
My heart breathes instead of tightens with a hand squeeze.
I’m just afraid that
My heart beat might forget how to accompany solo pieces
By learning all these duets

Plato said it is at the touch of love that everyone becomes a poet.
But I could rhyme before I understood love.
And if I didn’t need the ‘touch of love’ to be myself ,
Then it means I can keep my heart beating with a verb;
Even if I lose you.

So I guess that means,
That there is nothing to be scared of.

Sorry I've taken so long to reply I haven't had time to go on my laptop! I tried to make the repitition in that line sound like a heart beat but I'm not sure it works very well so will probably change it as you suggested! I agree that falling could be taken as something more fun like flying but I think of landing as a safe word as in not dangerous :/ so I don't know what I would replace it with! I'm really glad my poem made you think it was very interesting for me to write!
Thank you very much I'm glad you enjoyed it!

your poem walks the reader through how you have surmounted fear of losing seemingly your first Love...and moving on...

Sorry for the late reply!
Thanks for reading my poem, this is exactly how I was trying to represent it so I'm glad you could see that!

lovedly

psychosomatic
and
one good thing is we ALL have this common disease
so don't fear please
death is no disease

otherwise all is not applicable to all as is Philosophy a single man's thinking and brainless nodding by others ignorant ones

I'd like to think of it more as if i'm not afraid of dying then I shouldn't be scared of anything! I included Plato because I was reading excerpts of his at the time and the quotes made me want to write the poem! Thanks for reading it!
