the shoes you wear

There is love in the shoes you wear
In slow blinks and tilted heads
Shift the focus, remove the grid

There is love in the shoes you wear
In full fridges and empty gas tanks
Point and shoot, the moments passing

There is love in second-hand shirts
In rushed paintings and scribbled birthday messages
Hand-printed letters for long-distance friends

There is love in the hand on my back as she moves me aside
In people who allow mistakes to slide
And people who point out your wrongs-
as they believe you can learn to be right

There is love in the shoes you wear
And the clothes you know I’d like
There is love in the little pats on my shoulder
When I craved an embrace

There is love in losing a game
You know you could win
And the warmth in his gaze-
that crushes the envy you’ve hidden

There is love for the game
But more love for him
There is love in your shoes,
Your shirts,
Your hands and knees

There is love in odd crafts,
In the world
And there is love within me

Geezer

Now, this is a free verse that I can get behind. I like everything about it. Taking a less frenzied approach to life and using old and care-worn things to show that not everything has to be new, let the older and used things in life make a statement of loving the experiences. ~ Geezer.

Thank you, Geezer, much appreciated. Surprisingly the poems I'm most unsure about tend to be so much better received by others. Very interesting to see how other people take a liking to my work.

Lavender

Hi, Leo,
"There is love in second-hand shirts..."
A great line in a simple and familiar poem of appreciation for a lover.
Thank you!

Of course! I love writing poems when I get one line stuck in my head, for this one it was "there is love in the shoes you wear" which took me through the rest of it.
