Life has always puzzled me
Time twisting and winding, flowing free
Past, Present, Future all blur into one
Filled with love and fear, pain and fun
Yet it's life that we are so afraid to surrender
For death is a mystery, and it does not give us splendour
To not know what is next, what Fate has in store
What will await you when you pass through the door?
Who will be right? The Christians or Buddhists
The Muslims or Greek, each religion insists
On their own set of rules for what happens after death
When you've sung your last song, breathed your last breath
Personally, I think that when it's my time
When I've grinned my last grin, and rhymed my last rhyme
My essence will fade, my soul put to rest
And I'll sleep without dreams, my inner peace endless

Thanks for...
the explanation of your slow responses. Personally, I subscribe to the theory that everyone has their own heaven. There is no right or wrong way to worship a peaceful, loving, god. As long as you live by the "Golden Rule". Nice work, your rhyme is great! You could use a little tightening up of the meter, but a really good piece! ~ Geezer.
.
I agree
I think everyone should believe what they believe and what works for them. Not everyone needs to have the same idea of what comes next, only respect other people.
Thanks for the comment about the meter, I'll work on it.

hello,
I agree with Geezer. I think we live our own lives, so too, must we die our own personal deaths (maybe good, maybe bad and could be mediocre.) I like your poem and the speculation. also it is your favor that you don't push your belief system on others! my favorite lines are:
Personally, I think that when it's my time
When I've grinned my last grin, and rhymed my last rhyme
My essence will fade, my soul put to rest
And I'll sleep without dreams, my inner peace endless

a good strong poem that makes the reader question their own beliefs.
Personally I don't think any religion has the answer. Most religions are based on the same themes just with different deities & rituals.
Maybe we don't need religion to shackle our own thoughts. Let's be free to decide our fate after death.
You say your essence will fade, your soul will be put to rest...but maybe your essence & soul will be set free to experience existence from a different perspective free of the five sense prison we find ourselves in.
Or, we just end.
Enjoyed the thought-provoking piece

Very interesting theme!
Everyone have spoken well here. Truly I believe your word here: 'For death is a mystery, and it does not give us splendour'. When we put off the mortal coil we go for the next which we all do not know what await us. God's judgement is what no one can tell because we are not part of his cabinet. But I believe, when we all die, there's a place meant for the dead.
This is extra ordinary creation!
It’s my universe
I’m the god of my own universe. The DMT my body is making and saving for the death experience should provide me with some comforting hallucinations as I transition into oblivion.
The piece is good. Excellent meter but could be tighter I suppose. I don’t think it’s a big issue as it still reads fairly easily.

Overall, this was a good write. You took a controversial topic and presented your thoughts and beliefs in an organized, dignified way. My belief is that simply being one religion doesn't designate your final journey or where you wind up at the end of that journey. I believe it is how you lived your life, treated others learned from mistakes etc. Personally, I am not afraid of death. I am looking forward to see what is in store for me as I am sure my struggles in life will show the best of intentions and good deeds have not gone unnoticed . Good job.
