The Weather Report

Living in New Mexico, Longing for Rhode Island

There's something about when it gets cold:
when leaves whisper in the wind a gentle word
a soft goodbye
when iced coffee tastes sweeter
even though it leaves a shiver down my spine
when the air is filled with the perfume of apple cider
and cedar smoke and roasting Hatch green chile
and something that can't be told or shown.
every year I watch that show about
two boys climbing Over a Garden Wall
and plunging into an ice cold river

The time is drawing near to when I met you
and as it gets colder I think of how you kept me warm
how you whispered softly in my ear
how sweet your kiss tasted
the indescribably gentle fragrance of your soft skin
how I fell head over heels in love with you

I've read both of your submissions to Neopoet. Really like this one the best of them. like the turn at the last stanza, really like the realism you bring to your writing.

Your first piece about quitting smoking hit home too.

Geezer

a change in the weather, to bring a memory to the fore huh? I like your descriptions of the smells and the feel of the air.
I'm not familiar with the movie that you speak of: [the boys and the river], maybe it's not something that many people
have reference to? Anyway, I like the atmosphere and the feel when you speak of your past lover. You have a bit of skill in helping us to see that. Nice tale! Welcome to Neo. ~ Geezer.

I appreciate your kind welcome, and the compliments! The show is called Over The Garden Wall, and its very fall themed. I May have to state that in future revisions
