I see trees burnt black
Dead roses too
Nothing can bloom
No flowers new
And I think to myself
What have we done to this world ?
The sky is ablaze
The sun glows white
Smog stays all day
A forest burns at night
And I think t myself
What have we done to this earth ?
The fish are full of plastic
Seabirds can’t fly
Red tide is like blood
Whales washed up to die
There’s an island of garbage
Drawn on the map
The sea turns toxic
An ocean of crap
And I think t myself
What have we done to this earth ?
Babies cry because they know
They will reap just what we sow
And I think to myself
What have we done to this world ?

Hello Mark
thanks for the critique, yes poem based on the song but more like a lament, will make corrections. Thanks again.
Happy Earthday
Hello, Sen,
A very appropriate parody, which of course gives it even greater meaning. I really like this, and can't help but wish it wasn't so accurate.
Thank you!

Hello Sen, lovely poem, a sad
Hello Sen, lovely poem, a sad parody of "What a Wonderful World". It makes me want to cry. BTW, I like Louis Armstrong's version best.
Apart from a little tighetenning up, it's all good. Remove "just" in the last strophe, for example.
Tx for sharing, Gracy
Hello Gracy
nice to read this piece evokes some emotion for you, thanks for reading
Hi Sen
Yes we still have a long way to go. But having lived through 66 years and having seen how far we have come I know we will eventually strike a balance we and the world can live with. Enjoyed the poem and immediately knew the song you were using
