The cellar door squeaked in the night
The sound of terror traveled till dawn
Not a moment of silence enter my thoughts
As the stars twinkled and the moon shined..
I got up every so often to watch the stars
For fairies and pixies stopping by
Spreading pixie dust everywhere
Hoping to see a spaceship hovering near by..
I'm usually on my MacBook creating videos
Not tonight the sound of a cellar door
Squeaked momentarily had me mesmerized
And the sound of terror traveled till dawn..
I have an early morning agenda
Going to physical therapy for my back and neck
Years of pain then an accident, it's time for relief
The sound of a cellar door continued without letup..
Soon day will break through and the sun will rise
I lie here listening to the distant sound of a cellar door
Disappeared far away to land of fairies and pixies
Dragonflies and butterflies, hummingbirds visited me..
I danced in the night smiling from cheek to cheek
Peeping the stars big and bright
The moon made its way to the westside of the skies
The stars stay put they're there for my delight..
Every night if feeling down
The stars are there twinkling in the night
On a clear dark night I can't contain my joy
So many stars large and small outside my glass door.
On a stormy night not a star in sight
Then suddenly they're there just for me
Shining bright through the rain clouds
For just a moment for my delight..
Back to the land of fairies blac pixi spread pixie dust
Everywhere day and night she working
To make the world a better place for me and you
The cellar door squeaked all night in terror..

this absolutely an enjoyable read. The YouTube adds that dimension that you can never get if you're just reading.
Thank you dear for sharing.
Hey Rula
glad you liked....i thought the youtube video might give it some umph
Wow, love the Youtube recording
Thank you for that. You must cringe when you hear my readings of your work, my Aussie accent so different it must even change meanings a t times.
I wish more poets would record their works for us.
This is a fine work also in terms of the workshop, demonstrating how the aural devices need not just be aesthetically pleasing but can contribute to terror or other emotions.
thanks Jess
it took me some time to figure out how I wanted to write it to sound of a cellar door; since i've never experience one in my life being a country girl raised in a small boarded house in nature till early twenties...glad you like it...i thought your reading of my work was uniquely interesting not cringing at all... i thought the youtube recording would give y'all a touch of my deep south country accent from the east coast of the Carolinas.
I got it...
I felt the fear whenever you thought of the cellar door sound. Nice work. ~ Geezer.
