Ladders used to be my friend
they carried me near to the sky
but now I fear that time's at end
as days of youth have passed me by
I still recall how I would hurl
myself up steps into the trees
as if I were a scaling squirrel
ascending often as I'd please
Countless time per day I'd go
up and down on legs of steel
I thought it would always be so
an assurance time was bound to steal
Now in the autumn of my life
ladders have become my foe
old injuries, none from strife
now make the pain of climbing grow
I must climb them most days still
but not as often or as fast
propelled less by strength and more by will
my earth bound days are coming fast

greetings Bee
It seems lately my stuff does not flow as well as it should. Every once and a while I stumble upon something close to right. I appreciate your taking the time to read and comment.................scribbler
Greetings:)
A nice read about coping and struggles, as one ages. The only thing I would change is in the first line, last stanza: I would remove one of the "stills" because two of the same word in one line seems like too much. It is your poem about life and the progression of life so you should do what you want and I am certainly no expert. Just a thought:)
Kind Regards,

hello
As much as I try to not repeat words too closely together, I managed to let this slip past me lol.Just goes to show the advantage of a second pair of eyes checking things out. Correction appreciated and made....................scribbler PS must be tough to forget your own name lol
I feel this one...
of yours, a little more than most. I struggle daily with the shortness of my breath a little more pronounced. When you are young, hale and hearty, you feel that the things you are capable of will always be so. Time eventually steals everything from you. Keep climbing as long as you are able. Good write about the struggle to keep going. ~ Gee P.S. Needs an ess on time.
