Flakes bounce and dodge through the bare limbs
completing their journey to below
as this day's evening slowly dims
and a slight chill wind begins to blow.
The winter world begins to fade
colors fade to almost black and white
especially in cedars' shade
whose canopy bans ground snow from sight.
Then into a land turned almost dark,
like bright paint splashed on a grim gray wall,
the contrast between them bold and stark,
flits a bright red cardinal.
And with it comes a change of mood
along with vision into to why I write:
to lighten up another's brood
and to their darkness add a bit of light.

well done
that part of the poet's purpose is to share joy and relieve us of our daily grief. Doing so with the symbolism of the winter and the bird was well conceived and executed. Just the right length and unforced rhymes. Nice poem!
Thank you.
