I wondered if anyone would be interested in a workshop that looked at improving poet’s development by the use of audio recording and critique, in order to appreciate reading, recitation, the sounds and cadences of words, as spoken by different people from all over the world. Format could be:
All participants submit a piece in the workshop..
Participants selected to read other members work..exciting..
Then upon reading, critique the poem, based on its reading.
Participants then submit a revised piece informed by the crit in the responses to the audio
Finally we have all our completed poems, wrap up and compare and contrast, discuss reading styles, pace, end-stopping versus enjambment etc., and how that is interpreted by different reader. Some could submit classic meter, while others could use free verse.
The improved poems, can all be presented (in audio format) on the Facebook page, along with article.
Thoughts anyone?
Chris.
Hi Chris
Sounds very interesting. I'd need to get familiar with sound cloud and how to get it transferred here but I'm planning on doing this anyway as soon as the imagery shop wraps up. This might be the very thing needed to high light the different English dialects which are all spin offs of Southern American ......lol
Yep, don't y'all go gentle into that long goood naaaht..
On this idea anyway - to be fair - attribution and inspiration camw from Elf. He has done some fine recordings, and I posted a few (in my cloud) would be good to have a public shareable NP account, which I'm sure you can do, I use another cloud solution - but can confirm that..Is tgere anyway you can copy in Jess on this convo, or would he see it anyway? Just wanted to flag a few people.
Thanks
Chris.
As I say below,
just post your audios anywhere online and send me the link and I'll post it on Neopoet SoundCloud and anywhere on Neopoet or social media. We can hardly give everyone the password and full access to Neopoet SoundCloud.
You can just post the link anywhere on Neopoet without going through me. I'm going to ask the AC to make an official Audio Department and ask if you will volunteer to be the director, Chris. I would do it myself but I already have 4 positions in Neopoet and it looks a bit suss. I'll send you the password.
Wow, that would be my pleasure.
And yes would be happy to work on that. In fact committing some of the key poets, and their more widely read stuff, would be a very useful resource, and a real honour, thanks for thinking of me. I have some decent gear now, and a bit of help from my resident sound engineer (youngest lad) - look forward to developments.
Thinking about it, a lot of workshops could benefit from some audio content, readings, observations, snippets of archival recordings of poets from public access resources etc. A lot of scope here.
Cheers.
Chris.
I've presented the proposal to the AC
already had 2 positive responses. Which is a majority but we should wait for the 3rd for consensus or in case of valid objections or suggestions.
It's easier than you think.
All laptops, tablets and phones have microphones, if you use a tower 'puter you just need a plug in microphone or, preferably a headset which you can get for as low as $15.
Then just open Voice recorder (on Windows) or any preferred recording program, record your poem, save as an Mp3 file, upload to Vocaroo (easiest but only kept for 3 months) or Soundcloud and send me the link. I can even enhance the sound quality for you. Then I'll upload it to our Neopoet SoundCloud site and, if you like to our Neopoet Facebook page. By request Madison (Rhiannon1010) can post it to all the other social media as well.
Alternatively video it and upload to Youtube send me the link, I can extract the audio and then the same as above.
onya Mark
are you set up to record?
Tell us what hardware and software you use.

[translation from Aussie- Brilliant, thank you, good on you my friend]
Audio is not that hard, sister and brother poets,
if you've got a laptop or phone the microphone is built in, if you have a desktop 'puter you only need to plug in a microphone, better still a headset with mike.
Imagine! Imagine! If we could all hear each other in our own accents and dialects!
I quite despaired of this when I assumed all poets were technically illiterate but now it is possible.
Let's hear each other!
Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com to keep, archival, or Vocaroo http://vocaroo.com/ temporary for workshops.
I would so much love to hear your voices.
Remember poetry was spoken word for thousands of years before written language.
For what it's worth, I have setup..
A soundclound account, and am willing to record anyone's work, who cares to hear it rendered in my Aussie/English brogue - I will make a survey of stuff I have read recently and suggest as much. Yes, it can be done on an average laptop, without any fancy gizmos.
Cheers.
Chris.
