By candle’s light that broad, fresh smile
put rose in cheeks and light in eyes.
The postman’s missive so worthwhile,
the day could hold no greater prize.
She’s half way through the second line,
at once the sound of laughter rings,
for ink the colour of dark wine
such satisfaction brings.
Oh when a sister’s far away
those conjoined hearts still beat,
while storge itself holds sway,
each written word’s a treat.

A brother
I have a sister. I never say I had a sister. She is always with me. Every day, she says good night and good morning to me.
I am from
a family of four boys and one girl. I have always been closer to my sister than to any of my brothers.
The poem was inspired by something quite different, the loving relationship between Jane Austen and her older sister Cassandra, who was like a mother to Jenny.(Jane's real name).
