The miracle boy

Waking up to police banging
at the door 5 o'clock in the morning
disturbing
hearing he's a live
hopeful.

holding on to that hope
a hour drive to the hospital
comforting
seeing him hooked up to a breathing tube
horrific
neck brace around his neck
scary.

seeing his eyes opened
a mother's saving grace
thanking God in all his glory.

he suffered eight broken ribs,
shattered spleen,
collapsed lung;
he lives to see his newborn son.

why me? he asked.
why am I alive? he voiced
it's been said no one ever survived
a tragic accident like his.
